Vice-chancellor of Visva-Bharati, Bidyut Chakraborty, held a meeting on Sunday with teaching and Non-teaching employees in response to their gheraos and demonstrations. He announced that their Seventh Pay Commission arrears could not be paid because the university was grappling with the financial crisis.
Non-teaching employees protested the payment delay and announced an “indefinite pen-down” strike from Monday onwards. They are demanding arrears to be cleared by puja. Research scholars also joined hands for their pending scholarship arrears.
